The Kite Runner was the first novel by SF Bay Area author, Khaled Hosseini.
In his usual self-effacing manner, Hosseini attributed the success of his novel to
the fact that there were no books about Afghanistan on the shelves and The Kite
Runner simply filled an empty niche.
But his book did more than tell the story of
two boys growing up in Kabul -- it opened the world's eyes to the
beauty that was once Afghanistan and the tragedy of its destruction. The Kite
Runner is responsible for much of America's awareness of the plight of this
country -- a true example of how literature can serve a dual purpose.
Now this book has made it to the screen
in a production by Paramount and
DreamWorks.The distributor, Paramount
Vantage, continuing in its tradition of
raising awareness and public support
for
crucial issues, has joined with the
Afghan Relief Network
for a special
showing of this significant film.
Khaled Hosseini has said that every time
he speaks audience members ask,
"What can we do to help Afghanistan?"
The answer is to attend this special event.
Your attendance will contribute to vital
projects
